some of the bring-food-to-mouth neurons would also activate if the monkey observed someone else (monkey or human) making that movement.

mirror neuron activity was greater when the observed individual was closer. But importantly, this isn’t just literal distance but something resembling “social” distance;

Mirror neurons in monkeys

First discovered in monkey in area F5.
F5 is interconnected with premotor cortex

When monkeys observe a human picking food with their hands, the same neurons fire when they perform the same movement.
But when a human uses a tool which they do not know, the mirror neurons do not fire. But they fire when the monkey does the movement itself.
Many neurons in F5 are active viewing another agent performing an action,
as well as during performing this same action itself. There is something with tools.
