the striatum is a subcortical region in the brain that plays a critical role in social behavior, reward processing, voluntary motor control, movement planning and execution, cognition, and pair-bond formation and maintenance in monogamous voles. It is the input module to the basal ganglia, which is necessary for voluntary movement control. The striatum is composed of three nuclei: caudate, Putamen, and ventral striatum, with the ventral striatum containing the nucleus accumbens (NAcc).
