The Brain Swarms with Error Messages
“Adaptation” means the brain is learning to predict the next event.
The brain guesses the future by looking at the recent past. So when something always repeats we except it to repeat in the future as well . So the repetition is squashed and put aside in our brain - we pay less attention and save resources.

Your brain just generated an N400 wave, an error signal evoked by a word or an image which is incompatible with the preceding context.

The brain circuit in which predictive and error signals have been best demonstrated is the reward circuit. The dopamine network not only responds to actual rewards, but also constantly anticipates them. Dopaminergic neurons located in a small nucleus of cells called the ventral tegmental area.
