Components of the human eye

sclera

The white, protective outer layer of the eye, providing structure and support.

retina

The light-sensitive layer at the back of the eye, converting light into neural signals for vision.
Images on the retina are inverted and reversed.

fovea

The central area of the retina with the highest concentration of cones for sharp vision.

Blind spot

The lack of rods and cones over the optic nerve head (optic disc) creates a blind spot for each eye located about 15 degrees lateral to the central fixation point.

Optic Nerve

Optic Nerve: The nerve that transmits visual information from the retina to the brain.

Iris

The colored part of the eye, controlling the size of the pupil and the amount of light that enters the eye.

Cornea

The clear, front surface of the eye, focusing light onto the retina for vision.
