LIP neurons have saccade target fields, encoding future saccade directions.

MT looks at direction coherence only for the moment.

But in LIP you have a monotonic change.
It is like a short term memory storage.
The firing rate is not directly dependent on the stimulus

Activity in LIP relates to the decision, even at 0% coherence.
Note the high activity maintained during the delay period!


Evidence is momentary, and the decision variable evolves over time.

The higher the evidence, the steeper the curve
