The Power and Limits of Synaptic Plasticity
when done early the brain can actually very well rewire. For example if someone would lose the right hemisphere due to an operation, the other hemisphere can take over many tasks. They may not be as good but it still works.
If this happens a few years after birth it may be too late to adjust the left over hemisphere to take over all the tasks.
The initial endogenous activity represents what statisticians call
prior:
the expectations of the brain, its evolutionary assumptions prior to any interaction with the environment.
posterior:
the brain’s probability distributions have changed to more and more closely reflect real-world statistics.
