CREB
CREB (cAMP-responsive element binding Protein)
- alters the transcription of genes: increase in so-called immediate early genes
- induces a neurochemical cascade that underlies memory formation.
- then: retrograde signal (presumably via NO)
- is a transcription factor
CREB also involved in Classical Conditioning of the gill withdrawal reflex
CREB-1: activates genes in the cell nucleus that stimulate Synapse formation
CREB-2: inhibits CREB-1
