- controlled by the Superior Colliculus
- lens is surrounded by ring muscles
- resting state of the lens is a globular shape
for far away vision: disaccommodation
- zonules build up tension
- Ciliary ring muscle is relaxing
- stretching the lens → flat shape
for near vision: accommodation
- Ciliary muscle contracts
- relaxed lens deformation
How does the ciliary ring muscle contract?
The ring muscle is innervated by a parasympathetic nerve (mAChR).
The muscarinic antagonist Atropine causes relaxation
