Cingulate Gyrus
Based on the given context, the cingulate cortex is responsible for executive attention and is divided into four functionally distinct regions: the Anterior Cingulate Cortex, midcingulate cortex, posterior cingulate cortex (PCC), and retrosplenial cortex. The cingulate gyrus is part of the limbic system, which is the “emotional brain,” and it contains components such as the cingulate gyrus, parahippocampal gyrus, fornix, Hippocampus, and Amygdala. The cingulate gyrus is located on both sides of the Thalamus, beneath the temporal lobe. Experimental evidence suggests that the cingulate gyrus has a role in Emotion processing, as stimulation of this region can cause different responses, including aggressive behavior and sometimes pleasurable emotions.
