Place Cells
- Place cells fire in a specific location relative to the environment. Each place cell responds to a different location of the environment.
- The area in the environment the cells responds to is called “place field”
- Place cells form a neural representation of the environmental space.
- In a new environment, the place cell activity stabilized after a few min [1]
- In a different environment, a place cell remap → they might be active in a different location in space or not at all [2-4]
- Changing an existing environment might also cause place cells to remap their activity
- they also map in 3D space

where to find them
Place cells are present _throughout the dorso-ventral axis of the Hippocampus, but place fields are larger towards the ventral pole
