memory processing

How does memory processing work?

The hard problem

How are memories created?

How Memories are created

See The hard problem

remembering is “an integrative reconstruction or construction.”
(p. 136)

prediction can edit memories after they are created.
(p. 137)

So our **believes, our values, our expectations shape the way we remember things. **

When we want to predict what happens next a Prediction Error occurs constantly. So when something is different this time a context-based prediction error occurs. With that the memory of the past changes. Before the context-based prediction error we were very sure of that memory. After the error our confidence towards the memory decreases.
See Neural Aspects of Prediction
A memory trace can be weakened when a prediction is not fulfilled. When the event is no longer predicted, memory for the event is weakened.
