The Amygdala plays an important role in the decision making process.
In other words, the default state is to trust, and what the amygdala does is learn vigilance and distrust.
It also has a shortcut to the subcortical parts of the brain and make us shiver when e.g. it’s getting cold. This shortcut is the reflexive motor pathway.

This happens with high speed by-passing the cortex, but with lower accuracy.
