Visual cortex - deutsch: Sehrinde

V1

also called striate cortex

V1 is located at the occipital pole of the cerebral cortex and easily accessible in macaque monkey.
In the macaque monkey it is conveniently placed on the outer surface, easily accessible by microelectrodes and optical imaging. This is part of the explanation why macaque monkeys are a much used model system.
In humans most of it is deeply folded in the calcarine sulcus.
